Profile

Lily-Mae Fisher died on 3 June 2026, in a helicopter crash at Sourton Down, near Okehampton, Devon, during her final flying assessment with the Royal Navy. She was due to receive her pilot's wings in June 2026. She was 31 years old.

Britain's only serving female Royal Navy Commando, Lily-Mae joined the Royal Navy in May 2019, describing it as "a massive privilege and a huge honour to serve my country." She thoroughly enjoyed her flying training, had a particular interest in the tactical elements, and had joined 846 Naval Air Squadron in 2025.

Her life was one of extraordinary firsts. In June 2022 she became the first serving female Royal Navy Commando, an achievement praised by NATO. A Great Britain Age Group Triathlete and Imperial College London graduate, she brought the same relentless drive to everything she pursued.

She had been an inspiration to countless people, particularly young women, encouraging them to achieve their dreams.

Her family said: "Lily-Mae was an extraordinary woman, daughter, sister, and partner. To say she was full of life is an understatement. She took every opportunity to push her limits, achieve more, and bring out the best in those around her. She has left an immeasurable hole in our lives, and in all the lives she has touched and inspired."

It was our honour and privilege to know you Lily-Mae.
